At the center of the STBALESSI is its 8.5-inch, two-piece, hand-hammered yellow brass bell with Shires’ “TI” taper. The lightweight construction, traditionally brazed seams, unsoldered bead, and special annealing treatment give the instrument a resonant, responsive feel with a broad, mature sound. It has the clarity to carry through orchestral textures, the warmth to blend beautifully in a section, and the stability to remain centered when the music gets demanding.
The Joseph Alessi rotary F valve is paired with a gold brass F-attachment slide and a TGF gold brass tuning slide with flanges, adding depth and density without making the horn feel sluggish.
