Among collectors and performing artists, the early New York Bach 3C has earned an almost legendary reputation. Often considered the holy grail of vintage Bach mouthpieces, these early examples represent some of the most desirable work from Vincent Bach's formative years as a mouthpiece maker.

This exceptional New York Bach 3C features the distinctive serif-font engraving associated with Bach's earlier New York production, approximately the mid-1920s through the 1940s. Mouthpieces from this period are particularly sought after for their distinctive rim and cup contours, meticulous craftsmanship, and the playing characteristics that established Vincent Bach's reputation among generations of professional trumpet artists.

The Bach 3C combines a medium-depth cup with a comfortable, moderately wide rim, offering a remarkable balance of tonal richness, clarity, and flexibility. Its versatility has made the 3C one of the most enduring mouthpiece designs in trumpet history, equally at home in orchestral, chamber, jazz, and commercial performance. Early New York examples are especially prized by artists seeking the distinctive feel and response of Bach's original designs.

This particular mouthpiece is in excellent vintage condition. The original plating on the rim and inside the cup remains 100% intact, an increasingly uncommon characteristic for a mouthpiece of this age. There are a few small surface blemishes on the rim, although the playing surface feels smooth to the touch. A small nick is present on the outer contour of the rim, while the shank exhibits some plating wear with areas of exposed brass.

Given the remarkable preservation of the original playing surfaces, we have elected to leave this mouthpiece in its present condition rather than replate it. Preserving the original finish and contours is particularly important with early New York Bach mouthpieces, where even minor changes to the rim or cup can alter the playing characteristics that make these examples so desirable. Professional replating by Bob Reeves Brass Mouthpieces is available upon request.
