The Bobby Burns Jr. Classical model features a 3C-style rim with a medium-deep bowl cup and open backbore.

“My classical mouthpiece gives me a full, rich sound.  I reach for the classical mouthpiece in more acoustic situations and find that I can still play my entire register throughout.”

About Bobby Burns Jr.

Bobby Burns Jr. did not take the easy road into music. He began at Indiana University as an undeclared major, admitted to the university but not yet ready for acceptance into the School of Music. After two years of remedial coursework and long hours in the practice room, he re-auditioned and was accepted as a music education major.

At Indiana, Bobby set his sights on studying with legendary trumpet teacher Bill Adam, whose students included Jerry Hey, Charley Davis, and Larry Hall. With persistence and more than a little determination, Bobby earned a place in Adam’s studio, where he studied for seven years alongside artists including Chris Botti. He later changed his major to trumpet performance and, after a brief stint at the Bach trumpet factory, returned to complete his Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance.

After graduation, Bobby moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a professional musician. His early work included performances at the Reno Hilton, with the Sherman Hemsley Band, and with the Disneyland Band. Like many working musicians, he balanced freelance playing with a series of day jobs while building his career in Los Angeles. Over time, he began performing with the Bayou Brass Band at Disneyland, the main Disneyland Band, local symphonies, and major theatrical productions.

As his reputation grew, Bobby became a fixture in the Los Angeles music scene. His credits expanded to include performances and recordings with artists such as The Temptations, The Stylistics, The Four Tops, Boyz II Men, Tony Bennett, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice-T. In 2000, he joined Macy Gray on tour, later performing in touring Broadway productions including Seussical, Evita, and A Chorus Line.

In 2004, after recording an overdub for Earth, Wind & Fire for the Grammy Awards, Bobby was invited to join the band. Since then, he has performed with Earth, Wind & Fire on some of the world’s most visible stages, including the Nobel Peace Prize concert, American Idol, the Grammy Awards, two Super Bowl appearances, and a performance at the White House for President Barack Obama.

Today, Bobby continues to tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, performing and traveling more than 200 days a year. His signature BBJ EWF mouthpiece reflects the demands of that career: power, endurance, consistency, and the sound required to stand in one of the most iconic horn sections in popular music.
