This late 1970s Bach 181ML Cornet has been expertly modified to expand its versatility and tonal palette while maintaining Bach’s renowned craftsmanship. Originally built with a 37 bell and standard cornet receiver, this horn was reimagined by master brass technician Charlie Melk, who fitted it with a 72 bell and a trumpet mouthpiece receiver.

The result is an instrument that combines the best of both worlds:

  • The 72 bell contributes to a larger, darker, more expansive cornet sound, ideal for both jazz and brass band settings.

  • The trumpet receiver allows you to play the instrument with your favorite trumpet mouthpiece, eliminating the need to adjust to a different rim or feel.

Following the modifications, the horn was plated, giving it a fresh, brilliant appearance to match its excellent playing qualities. It is in great shape overall, with only a small ding on the side of the bell and very minor wear.

For players seeking a cornet that is both visually striking and musically flexible—with professional modifications by a respected craftsman—this 181ML is a rare and attractive choice.
