Excellent Olds Mendez Bb Trumpet- Boyde Hood Collection
First-year Olds Mendez Bb trumpet, built in 1952 in the Los Angeles factory and finished in silver plate. Serial 86xxx places it right in the original limited run of Mendez trumpets between roughly 86004 and 86999, when Olds introduced the model in collaboration with Rafael Méndez.
This horn comes from the collection of Boyde Hood (Los Angeles Philharmonic) and has been well cared for. It’s in excellent playing condition with:
- Silver plate in great shape
- No dents
- Good compression
- Valves and slides that move freely
The Mendez model was designed as Rafael Méndez’s artist horn, loosely based on his French Besson. It’s a medium-large bore, lightweight pro trumpet with distinctive bracing and first and third slide triggers, built to handle studio work, lead playing, and solo repertoire.
Condition
- Finish: Silver plate, excellent overall with minor cosmetic scratches
