Ullvén Mutes - Trumpet Dizzy Cup Mute

"I have never before had an equal mute, it's unbelievable that you can succeed 100% in producing a mute with so many top qualities."
- Dizzy Gillespie

The Ullvén Dizzy Cup Mute has a rich history that began in 1958 when inventor and entrepreneur Gunnar Ullvén met the legendary trumpeter John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie at a jazz club in Stockholm. Gillespie, who was already world-famous for his Be-Bop sound, instantly fell in love with Ullvén's trumpet mutes made of chrome-plated copper. From then on, he used these mutes for the rest of his career and made an agreement with Ullvén to have them bear his name.

The Original Ullvén Dizzy Cup Mute is a versatile piece of equipment that will cover all your playing needs. With an adjustable cup, it can produce a range of sounds, from a tight cup soft warm, to an open bright crispy sound with perfect pitch and rich overtones. The removable cup can even be used as a plunger, and without the cup, the body of the mute becomes a nice straight mute. This mute is beloved by legendary musicians such as Clark Terry, Maynard Ferguson, Jon Faddis, Harry "Sweets" Edison, and many more!

Note that all Ullvén mutes are delivered with oversized corks that need to be filed or cut to fit your individual instrument for the best intonation and sound. It's recommended that you adjust the cork so that the mute fits deep into the instrument bell.

Take your trumpet playing to the next level with the Ullvén Dizzy Cup Mute!

About Ullvén Mutes

For over half a century, Ullvén & Co has been recognized as one of the top brands for mutes. Their mutes are renowned for their exceptional quality and have been appreciated and used by leading professional brass musicians. The company has an impressive history of working with famous trumpet players, including Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson, who even contributed to the development of new Ullvén mutes.

Sadly, production of these extraordinary mutes ceased at the turn of the millennium, but now, almost 20 years later, trumpeter Lasse Lindgren has proudly resurrected the brand. Each Ullvén mute is handcrafted using the same specifications, tooling, and materials as the originals. This means that you can expect the same high level of quality and sound that made Ullvén & Co one of the most revered names in the business.
