All mutes come with an attractive handmade black velvet bag!

Models:

  • The Nicholson - With the same basic design as the Mooch and the Avery, the Nicholson plays superbly in-tune, with minimal resistance.  It facilitates easy articulation in the upper-register.  It is especially perfect for soft passages, but is a good all-around straight mute that blends well.  The Nicholson is the brightest of the 3 Clary straight mutes. It is made with domestic and exotic hardwood:  Padauk, Purpleheart, Yellowheart, Walnut, and Honduran Mahogany.  The middle ring and bottom resonator are made from Spanish Cedar.

  • The Mooch - With the same basic design as the Nicholson and the Avery, the Mooch plays superbly in-tune with minimal resistance.  It facilitates easy articulation in the upper-register.  It is especially perfect for soft passages, but is a good all-around straight mute that blends well.  The Mooch offers a little less brightness than the Nicholson.  Handmade from domestic and exotic hardwoods: Padauk, Peruvian Walnut, and Hard Maple in a chessboard pattern.  The bottom resonator and middle ring are made from Cherry wood.

  • The Avery -  With the same basic design as the Nicholson and the Mooch, the Avery plays superbly in-tune with minimal resistance.  It facilitates easy articulation in the upper-register.  It is especially perfect for soft passages, but is a good all-around straight mut that blends well.  The Avery is the least bright of the 3 Clary straight mutes. This mute is handmade from exotic hardwoods:  Padauk, Purpleheart, African Mahogany, Yellowheart, and Peruvian Walnut with a middle band on the bottom section of Yellowheart.  The bottom resonator and middle ring are made out of Walnut.

Clary Woodmutes fit both Bb and C Trumpets.  They can be easily used without cork modification in standard and large-bell trumpets.

The mutes play extremely-well in tune and have a great response in all ranges of the instrument.  They have both an amazing soft voice and the ability to cut when pushed. They are unique-looking, and will usually attract attention from your fellow musicians!

The corks are constructed of two laminated layers: cork and foam.  This cork construction allows easy insertion of the mute and ensures that the mute will not fall out during a performance.

Although they are made from wood, the mutes are lightweight, the straight mutes weighing in at approximately 80 grams (about 3 oz.) and the cup mutes at about 125 grams (4.5 oz).  They are strong and will take the abuse of being shoved into a mute bag night after night.
